Arthritis is a condition that affects almost one million people in Ireland, from newborn babies through to the elderly. It is the single biggest cause of disability in this country and has a hugely negative impact on people’s lives by taking away their ability to do basic, everyday things.
As a charity organisation dedicated to working with people with arthritis, our mission is have just as big a positive impact on the lives of those with the condition.
We do this in a number of ways:
- We invest in research to find new treatments and cures.
- We enable and empower people to become effective self-managers.
- We raise understanding of arthritis as a chronic disease and fight for a better healthcare service.
It is with this third critical action in mind that Arthritis Ireland is focusing on Election 2016.
Arthritis Ireland is asking all candidates in Election 2016 to support our 100 Day Plan. We are calling for a commitment within the first 100 Days of the next Government to the appointment of 100 rheumatology posts across the six hospital areas.
100 specialist consultants, nurses and therapists across the country will sever waiting lists, radically improve the lives of thousands of arthritis patients and save the HSE millions in unnecessary costs. Check out our Hospital Area Map to see where these posts will be located.
You can help make this plan a reality.
